Itinerary at a glance

 

June 19 – Arrive in Casablanca

  • Arrive Casablanca, make your way to our hotel, check-in and relax

  • Remainder of day on own

June 20 – Casablanca to Chefchaouen

  • Tour the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca – one of the largest and most impressive in the world

  • Drive to Chefchaouen – about a 5 hour drive along the Moroccan coast, past the capital city of Rabat and into the Rif Mountains of Northern Morocco to the town of Chefchaouen - known for the striking, variously hued blue-washed buildings of its old town

  • Tour of the old medina

  • Included meals: L, D

 

June 21 – Chefchaouen to Fes

  • Drive to Fes – one of the most incredible cities in the world; there’s no comparison to its 9th century medina. Along the way, stop and tour the ancient ruins in the Roman city of Volubilis and then the medina of the Imperial city of Meknes before we check into our riad in Fes’ old medina.

  • Enjoy a home-cooked Moroccan dinner at our riad

  • Included meals: B, L, D

 

June 22 – Fes

  • A local guide leads us through the 9th century medina where the locals go about their daily business. Make sure to stay close to the guide. You don’t want to get lost here – unless you’ve been dropping breadcrumbs along the way.

  • After touring the key sites in Fes, you will have free time in the afternoon to explore on your own or just relax

  • Meals: B

 

June 23 – Fes to the Sahara Desert camp near Merzouga

  • Drive to Merzouga through the Middle Atlas Mountains where the scenery is stunning and the Barbary Apes call their home and then onto the outskirts of the desert to the small town of Merzouga.

  • After relaxing at a guesthouse with a little mint tea, we climb onto our camels and our guide leads us across the sand dunes of the Sahara Desert stopping to take in what is hopefully an incredible sunset.

  • Arrive in our desert camp and enjoy a traditional Moroccan meal prepared by the camp staff.

  • Meals: B, L, D

 

June 24 – Sahara Desert camp to Boumalne Dades

  • Arise early to see the sun rise over the sand dunes and then climb onto our camels for the trek back to the guesthouse in Merzouga where you can shower, change clothes and have breakfast

  • Drive to Boumalne Dades stopping to see the Todra Gorge where the canyon’s walls reach heights of more than 500 feet

  • Meals: B, L, D

 

June 25 – Boumalne Dades to Marrakech

  • Drive to Marrakech stopping to see the Hollywood of Morocco (where Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven and other notable movies were filmed), Ksar Ait-Benhaddou (a fortified village along the trade route between the Sahara and Marrakech), and the High Atlas Mountains.

  • Enjoy dinner in Jemaa el-Fna, which just might be the biggest, and best, street food presentation in the world – a great place to try many Moroccan favorites

  • Meals: B, L, D

 

June 26 – Marrakech to Imlil (High Atlas Mountains)

  • A local guide leads us on a tour of Marrakech – the old medina and souk, the 12th century Koutoubia Mosque, and other fascinating sites.

  • In the afternoon, we take a relatively short drive to the High Atlas Mountains to the town of Imlil where we can relax and enjoy the mountain scenery.

  • Meals: B

 

June 27 – Imlil to Essaouira

  • Feel free to enjoy a relaxing morning OR get up early with us as we hike in the High Atlas Mountains this morning.

  • After lunch at the hotel or the local area, we drive to the walled city of Essaouira, along the Atlantic Ocean – one of my favorite destinations in Morocco

  • Meals: B

 

June 28 - Essaouira

  • Enjoy a walk along the ramparts, through the fishing port and the old medina, shop in the souk or just lie on the beach – the day is yours to do as you want

  • Meals: B

 

June 29 – Essaouira to Marrakech

  • We get an early start and drive to Marrakech where the day is yours to explore this fascinating city

  • Meals: B

 

June 30 - End of tour

  • After breakfast, our tour ends

  • For those continuing onto our extension, in Spain, we will transfer to the airport in Marrakech to board our flight to Seville, Spain

  • For those who are returning home, we will assist you with planning your return home

  • Included meals: B
